How to Search the QSS Web Site
The QSS Web Site has a very powerful and fast search engine that enables the user
to search the entire web site. It is simple to use, and should prove very helpful when you're
looking for information on a particular topic.
- Type in the words you wish to search for in the input field shown above. To search for all files that contain the
word "straight" in them, type in the word in the field, and hit the "Search" button.
- This will return pages containing one or more occurrances
of "straight", "straighten", "straightforward", etc. To limit
the search to whole words only, select the option marked "Whole Words".
- The "Typos" selection allows to specify how many "mistakes"
the search engine should tolerate. For example, if you chose 1, with an input of
"straight", the search engine would match "strait" and "straighht", but not
"straihgt" (you need a setting of 2 for that).
This is useful if you do not know the spelling to a word, or if the word is misspelled
on the site's page. Be warned: The higher the number, the more incorrect matches you will receive.
- The "File Scope" entry is used to specify the scope of the search for "+" cases (see below). If this option
is selected, then a search for "A+B" will find all files that have A and B occur anywhere WITHIN THE ENTIRE FILE.
If the option is not selected, the search will return all files that have A and B occurring
somewhere close to each other.
- The input field accepts only the following "special" characters:
- + This means AND. An input of "straight+line" (without the quotes) returns
a list of all files with an occurance of the word "straight" AND an occurrance of
the word "line" ANYWHERE within the scope.
- , This means OR. An input of "straight, line" (without the quotes) returns
a list of all files with an occurance of the word "straight" OR an occurrance of
the word "line" ANYWHERE within it.
Spaces are NOT allowed. This is because people have been using spaces where they should be using the + or ,
characters.
- If the part of the line that matches is inside html markup, the line will be displayed, but without the markup. Yes,
this too is a bug, but it's probably not worth fixing.
- A file that contains ALL the words that you can search for on this
site is available. Be warned: This is a BIG file (~150K). It is helpful to seach for transliterations
of Arabic words.
